COFFEE PROFILE
The Icatu variety was cultivated by Instituto Agronômico de Campinas in Brazil. It was hybridised in 1993 by crossing Bourbon from the Arabica family with Robusta, the first to give this variety good disease resistance. They then backcrossed this hybrid blend with Mundo Novo, another hybrid cultivar to improve cup quality. This exciting red-fruited Natural is an excellent example of Icatu that we are so happy for you to get to try.

Not only are Fernando’s coffees an excellent expression of the unique terroir of the Marcala region, but his focus on creative innovations. We see some of this through variety. Icatu is disease-resistant variety from leaf rust and other common coffee issues like bora and nematodes. Usually highly disease-resistant varieties don’t produce the nicest cup but this Itacu is an exemption, Fernando has created a profoundly interesting cup profile in this Lot.
